Wind Bending the Palms

Trying to obey Psalm 29:1, ascribing to the LORD glory and strength, looking out the glass door as the cold-fronted-wind bends the palm tree, it startles me: what a strange thing to find ourselves as humanity, as humans, on this ball of earth, where we simply are, with things like weather systems and wind already in motion. We have no control over it, it’s like we are simply put here, forced to reckon with the reality of earth and existence.

Because we are.

Sometime I think that the atheists and agnostics and skeptics have the high ground, but I think about it all wrong in those moments. As we look for answers, wouldn’t it make more sense to assume that we were put here (passive voice intended). And would it make more sense to assume that someone rather than something put us here?

Yes! And his name is Yahweh, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, Almighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Humanity has looked all sorts of place to find God, but the Christian faith is a faith, as Carl Henry would say, of revelation. God has shown us who we are, where we are, and why we are. More importantly: who and why he is.

We are not left to try to seek him in the wind, but in the Wind (sorry, couldn’t help it). He sent his Word, empowered and inspired by His Spirit, and he has told us the story of why a cold-front wind in South Florida bends over the palm trees. He has witnessed to himself, and I, for one, need to reorient my mind around that fact sometimes. The heavens and the palm trees are shouting out the glory of God.
